Originally built as a 1930's boys club, the Roadmender in Northampton has undergone a staggering transformation. The building was literally turned back to front, with the new frontage "exploding" onto two main roads.
Behind the entrance is a large and airy front-of-house with a ceiling five metres high. The reception incorporates a large bar with a gallery above. There are three separate performance areas and full facilities for the disabled.
The building won a Civic Trust Awards commendation.
