Iconic Housing Scheme Helps to Boost Regeneration
A dilapidated community building and some old garages are to be demolished in Rowlett Road, Corby, and the land – which is adjacent to ancient woodland - sold to Leicester Housing Association. An iconic new £3.2 million housing development designed for the site by GSS has already received planning approval from Corby Borough Council.
GSS architect Tom Lyons explained, "If all goes well, it is planned to start on site in March. The scheme will comprise a mix of town houses, flats, semi-detached homes and one detached property. Of the 27 units being built, 18 will be for social housing and nine will be for private sale."
Tom Lyons continued, "The funds released by the sale of land have enabled the adjacent Woodnewton Infants and Junior Schools to be linked together, effectively creating a primary school. We have also designed a new Children's Centre to be built on the school site, and this will provide better facilities for the local community. All this will give a further boost to the regeneration of Corby."
