Former Cinema to Become Christian Centre

A multi-million pound transformation of the former Cannon Cinema in Northampton has started, with the art deco venue due to become a centre of worship for the Northamptonshire-based Jesus Army. The £5 million project is due to last the best part of a year, and will provide conference facilities, meeting and dining areas as well as offices, training rooms, a day care unit and a kitchen.

The architects and project managers, Gotch, Saunders & Surridge, were selected for the project on the basis of their award-winning work at the Roadmender music and arts centre in Northampton.

GSS partner and project team leader Brian Gotch said, "We were delighted to have been asked to take on this unusual project. The old Cannon Cinema has been a famous landmark in the centre of Northampton for many years, and we are pleased to have the task of bringing back to life some of its former glory."

The main contractors are Deejack Builders, based in Rushden.
