Early Years Centre Opens at Beauchamp College
A new Early Years Centre has been opened at the Beauchamp College, Oadby, Leicestershire, following the refurbishment and conversion of some disused changing rooms and showers. The new Centre replaces two separate nursery buildings elsewhere on the campus, and forms part of the flagship comprehensive's Extended Education scheme.
The £610,000 project has been designed and project-managed by GSS Architecture, who also acted as cost managers. The five month project was completed on time and within budget. GSS Associate Partner Glenn Mathew acted as team leader while Paul Vega was responsible for overall cost and project management.
The ground floor of the existing building was completely stripped out, and there are new internal walls, ceilings, lighting, heating and air-conditioning. An extension at one end of the building provides an attractive outdoor play area. The facilities include two rooms for 3-5 year-olds, a room for 2-3 year-olds and a separate room for the under 2s. In addition there is a kitchen, an ICT room, a staff room and toilet facilities.
The main contractor was J H Hallams. BSD were the mechanical and electrical engineers while structural engineers were JPP. In a second phase to the project one of the former nursery buildings is being converted into an Access Centre to provide adult education.
The works are part of an overall £9 million redevelopment of Beauchamp's campus.
